Chic Urban Escape: The Beverley
Toronto’s newest boutique property, The Beverley Hotel, recently opened its doors last month in artsy Queen West at Queen and Beverley.
Architect Steven Fong is responsible for this sleek five-story, 18-room hotel whose modern concept and hip style immediately attracted the attention of local media, designers, and artists alike.
The Beverley’s mission statement is neatly condensed into three words: Eat, Drink, Stay.
The restaurant, located on the first floor, is the ideal place to enjoy the culinary creations of chef Eric Wood (former chef at Hawthorne Food and Drink). Wood offers exquisitely executed contemporary Canadian dishes based around seasonal local produce. Not to miss are the Foie Gras Torch-On (sea salt crackle, Waldorf slaw, cider vinegar syrup) and the Nova Scotia Halibut (potato leek fondue, sherry’d beet, charred fennel, orange & chervil pesto).
The restaurant space has an intimate décor, highlighted by dark chocolate walls and stainless steel features.
The Beverley’s rooftop patio is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy great views of Toronto’s city centre. Sofas, stools, and plush pillows provide guests with a stylish space where they can indulge in delicious tropical-style street food and an extensive cocktail list (try the “Monte Negroni” (sherry cask Canadian club, Montenegro, Campari grapefruit bitters). While the cocktails might take the spotlight at the rooftop patio, the wine list, which is divided into “sip” and “savour” categories, is preferred at the restaurant. There are currently plans for a speakeasy room in the basement – a perfect location for private events of up to 20 people.
The hotel (click on photo to enlarge and see slideshow) offers three types of chic and contemporary guest rooms: standard (160 square), deluxe (320 square feet) and a studio (130 square feet). Whatever the size, each of the 18 rooms provides elegant, minimal, airy décor. Black-and-white photographs of Queen West above the bedhead and glass walls and doors around the baths are pleasing touches.
Thanks to its sleek design and philosophy – celebrating the arts, music, and great conversations over drinks – The Beverley Hotel gracefully showcases the funky side of Queen West and succeeds in attracting a cosmopolitan arts-oriented clientele and international business travellers searching for an original, sexy overnight experience.
