Wine & Design at Southbrook Vineyards
Located on a gorgeous150-acre property in bucolic Niagara-on-the-Lake, Southbrook Vineyards is the largest organic winery in Ontario, Canada.
The design of Southbrook’s facilities was awarded to Jack Diamond of Diamond and Schmitt Architects and includes the winery and hospitality pavilion—an elegant glass, light-filled structure filled set against a striking 200-metre long landscape wall.
Visitors can enjoy two tasting rooms, a wine shop, various hospitality areas, and the Vineyard Bistro amongst other guest amenities that reflect Southbrook’s owners Marilyn and Bill Redelmeier’s personal love story with wine and the world-renowned Niagara wine region.
Natural light prevails in the hospitality pavilion, while the floor-to-ceiling double-glazing controls temperature transfer. Walls are thoroughly insulated, and deep roof overhangs provide additional shade to the building. Indoor water usage is controlled by automatic and low-flow fixtures.
Southbrook’s hospitality pavilion became the first winery building (in Canada or Ontario) to receive the Gold level of LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) from the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) in November 2008 and was awarded the 2009 International Architecture Award.
