Flavours of Îles-de-la-Madeleine
À l’abri de la Tempête is a microbrewery located in Québec, Canada. (More precisely on Îles-de-la-Madeleine, a 50-mile-long archipelago of untamed beaches in the Atlantic Ocean).
Like many of the world’s finest epicurean delights, the secret ingredient in the microbrews from Québec is salt. Belle Saison, Corne de Brume, Écume, and Terre Ferme (winner of the gold medal at the Wolrd Beer Cup 2011) are some of the different beers available from this microbrewery.
The Fromagerie du Pied-de-Vent, also from Îles-de-la-Madeleine, produces some of the most delicious cheeses (the Pied-de-Vent, and the Tomme des Demoiselles) in Québec.
Milk for the cheesemaking comes from an unusual breed of cow on the islands called ‘La Canadienne’, a Québécois breed that is physically quite small but gives excellent quality milk.
